Smooth Jazz radio

Smooth jazz places accessible melodies and a polished ensemble sound ahead of the more angular rhythms and extended improvisation associated with some other jazz styles. Saxophone, guitar and keyboards are common voices in the format. It is a direction worth exploring for melodic jazz listening, without assuming that every selection is instrumental or slow.

Vocal Jazz radio

Vocal jazz puts the singer and the interpretation of a song at the centre of the performance. Phrasing, rhythmic freedom and the interaction between voice and accompaniment can make different versions of the same standard sound quite distinct. This format offers a vocal-led route into jazz rather than a focus solely on instrumental solos.
