News and discussion

News and talk are complementary spoken-radio formats: reports concentrate on developments, while interviews and discussions leave more room for context and different viewpoints. A short bulletin suits a quick catch-up; a longer conversation offers time to explore the background and arguments. This combination is a useful starting point for listeners interested in current affairs rather than a music-led stream.

General-interest radio

General-interest radio is not confined to a single music genre or a single topic. The format can bring together conversation, information, entertainment and music across different programmes. Unlike a specialist music stream, its character can change through the day as one programme gives way to another: the variety of subjects is part of the listening experience.
