About the station
1940s Radio HS - Pumpkin FM broadcasts online (London, England, United Kingdom). The broadcast language is English. Its format and main topics include big-band music, old-time radio, and swing.
Big bands and swing
Big-band arrangements and swing rhythms connect a large ensemble sound with a buoyant dance feel. Brass and reeds can answer one another while the rhythm section holds the music together, with room for a featured solo or voice. This combination points toward orchestral jazz textures, rather than treating all older recordings as one undifferentiated oldies category.
Old-time radio programmes
Old-time radio refers to recordings of radio programmes rather than simply older songs. Drama, comedy, serial stories and other spoken productions are associated with the format. This distinction matters when comparing an archive-programme station with an oldies music station: a historic recording can be carried by a live online stream.
